Arts for Kids
RLV OracleArt, Inc. is dedicated to increasing opportunities for children to learn about and become involved in the arts. Since 1998, the RLV OracleArt Summer Youth Workshop, has been led by Maggie Miller and Shelley McGrew.
Maggie Rush Miller and Shelley McGrew both grew up and attended the local school in Oracle. They were raised at Rancho Linda Vista, an artist community founded in 1968, and experienced first hand the enrichment that the creative arts can play in the development of a child. Their vision is to utilize the skills they learned as professional artists to nourish the self-esteem and creativity of the Pinal County Youth. The goals of the Summer Youth Workshop have always been two fold: to provide direct artistic experiences with professional artists, and to broaden the cultural awareness of local youth and the community.
The RLV OracleArt Summer Youth Workshop encourages children from ages of 4 to 18 to express themselves in music, dance, poetry, drama, film and visual art.
From African drumming and storytelling to creating their own videotaped soap opera, children discover the joys of creative expression while realizing actual projects. What makes this workshop all the more exceptional is the fact that it is offered free to children, including those from nearby towns and reservations. The program, which relies on donations and grants, meets the creative and educational needs of a large and diverse group of children who might otherwise not be able to afford such an opportunity for artistic growth and self-fulfilment.
